Argostoli

The capital of the island of Kefalonia, Argostoli is also the largest and most populated town on the island, also full of tourist facilities such as hotels, apartments, stores and nightclubs.

The town springs up around the lagoon of Kutavos and spreads along Lithostroto, the main cobbled street full of stores, workshops, and cafes. Although it is the center that welcomes most tourists when they arrive at Kefalonia airport, Argostoli is also the town where most islanders live, and they do not leave the island during the winter.

Argostoli beach is two kilometers long and is located in the eastern part of Kefalonia, where you can also see the area of Lassi, where the most beautiful beaches and the most serviced areas for summer tourism are located.

As the main town of Kefalonia in Argostoli there are also several points of interest such as museums and monuments of special importance. Here you can visit the Archaeological Museum, the Library, the War Memorial, and the Seawater Mills. Lots of ideas and opportunities to relive the vicissitudes of the different peoples, from Mycenaean to Venetian, who passed through the island. Among the most characteristic is certainly the reconstruction of the Aghii Theodori Lighthouse, a small lighthouse rebuilt several times, capable of creating a romantic and unique view, especially at sunset.

Finally, almost three kilometers from Argostoli, there is a natural phenomenon unique to Greece, the Katavothres . This is a natural phenomenon due to which, in this particular area of the island, sea water seeps into the rock disappearing underground in small holes, called “wolverines.” Spectacular seawater mills, now home to special bars and cafes, have been built in these places over time to harness the energy of this phenomenon from the sea.
