Arid and barren also thanks to its granite soil, the island of Mykonos has a Mediterranean climate with mild and humid winters and dry and hot summers so that the fauna and vegetation are scarce on the island even if very varied. The hottest month of the year is July when temperatures can easily exceed 40 degrees, while in August they tend to fall slightly, remaining however high, because it is very windy.
Also called the island of winds, Mykonos thanks to its geographical position is caressed by the summer wind Meltemi that blows from the north mitigating temperatures and giving relief to tourists. During the winter the island is swept by the Sirocco, a south wind that carries sand from the southern coasts of the Mediterranean.

Temperatures in these months can be very changeable: July is the hottest month but from the beginning of August the Meltemi, the wind that blows on the island from the north, creates a nice refreshing breeze and ripples the sea that attracts many surfers.
September is a beautiful month to visit Mykonos: the good weather does not leave the island, temperatures are lower and the crowds of tourists are just a memory. In October the temperatures are pleasant and the sea is warm enough and ideal for a solitary swim, the only drawback some downpour.
From November until the beginning of March temperatures drop to 9 degrees and winds blow from the south. These are the wettest months but the sun shines every day and temperatures are never cold.
The hottest months of the year in Mykonos are August and July, when the monthly average temperature reaches 30 °C, while the coldest months of March, December, January and February the thermometer drops up to 6 °C.
In Mykonos rainiest months of the year are October and November during which monthly rainfall average reaches 170 mm. On the other side, driest months are July and June when the average rainfall is reduced to 15 mm per month.
June, August and July are sunniest months of the year. During that months, from sunrise to sunset there are 14 total light hours in Mykonos. In January, February and December daylight hours are reduced to 6.
